Build This House – Part 8
BUILD THIS HOUSE
1 Peter 5:9–11 (AMP)
1Pe 5:9 But resist him, be firm in your faith [against his attack–rooted, established, immovable], knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being experienced by your brothers and sisters throughout the world. [You do not suffer alone.]
1Pe 5:10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace [who imparts His blessing and favor], who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ, will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you [making you what you ought to be].
1Pe 5:11 To Him be dominion (power, authority, sovereignty) forever and ever. Amen.
Every house that stands for generations is built on resistance and reinforcement.
Peter closes his letter like a master builder talking to apprentices:
- RESIST— (v. 9)
1Pe 5:9 But resist him, be firm in your faith [against his attack–rooted, established, immovable], knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being experienced by your brothers and sisters throughout the world. [You do not suffer alone.]
Resist him — Push Back
This is a military word.
Peter is saying: Don’t collapse under pressure.
Satan’s strategy is always the same—undermine your confidence, weaken your footing, and isolate you.
How do I resist?
Biblical Blueprint for Resisting the Devil:
- Submit to God first — Jas 4:7 So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you. How do I submit to God?
Submission is alignment.
- Know Christ for yourself- Jn.1:12
- Obey His Word — John 14:15
- Yield your will — Luke 22:42
- Humble yourself — 1 Peter 5:6
- Develop a prayer and devotional life. –
- Pray in the Spirit – Eph. 6:18
- Repent and confess quickly — Acts 3:19, 1.Jn.1:9
- Draw near — James 4:8
- Stay under spiritual covering — Hebrews 13:17
- Trust God in suffering — 1 Peter 4:19
- Being filled and led by and with the Holy Spirit. 5:18, Rom8:14
Resistance is reinforcement.
Together they produce stability.

- Be firm in your faith” — Become Immovable.
1Co 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord [always doing your best and doing more than is needed], being continually aware that your labor [even to the point of exhaustion] in the Lord is not futile nor wasted [it is never without purpose].
- The same sufferings are experienced… throughout the world.
You’re not odd—you’re in the army.
SUFFERING IS NOT THE END—IT’S THE PROCESS (v. 10)
“After you have suffered for a little while…”
Suffering is for a season
Your not alone in your suffering
God promises us that He will:
The God of all grace Saving grace, Strengthening grace, Restoring grace, Enduring grace, Healing grace
Forgiving grace, Transforming grace, Sustaining grace
Overcoming grace
- The Four things God will do for you after you’ve suffered
Peter lays out the four things God will do Himself:
- Complete you — Finish the unfinished parts; make you whole.
- Repair what was broken, Restore what was damaged, Realign what is out of place,
God will repair you internally and externally until you function as you were designed.
- Confirm you — sterizio – to make sturdy.
God will make you steady, stable, and spiritually balanced.
- Strengthen you — Add spiritual weight-bearing capacity.
- Increase internal strength
- Build capacity, more capable
- Empower with resilience
- Make you tougher, stronger, durable
God will make you stronger than what tried to break you.
- Establish you — Pour the concrete foundation so deep nothing can move you.
- Lay a foundation
- Set permanently
- Make unmovable
- Root something so deeply it cannot be displaced
“God will make your life unshakeable.”
Establish (themeliosei) means
‘God will lay such a deep spiritual foundation in your life that no pressure, no storm, and no attack will ever be able to move you again.’”
He’s the Builder, the Architect, the General Contractor, and the Inspector.
Your Endurance Becomes His Glory
When you don’t quit:
- He gets glory.
- Your house stands taller.
- Others find shelter in your testimony.
Amen—So Let It Be Built
Peter ends with “Amen”—meaning:
“This house will be built exactly like God said.”
