Summer in the Spirit – Part 5
SUMMER IN THE SPIRIT 5
It’s all for His glory
Gal 5:16 But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts].
God is not distant—He’s personal. He invites us into a deep, intimate relationship with Him through His Holy Spirit.
He hasn’t left us to figure life out on our own.
He gives us a divine prescription—a road map for victorious, purpose-filled living:
Walk in the Spirit/Live by the Spirit
Be led by the Spirit.
Pray in the Spirit.
Be filled with the Spirit.
- Walk in the Spirit/ live by the Spirit — Galatians 5:16–17/ 25(AMP)
“But I say, walk habitually in the Holy Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature (which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts).”
- To “walk” in the Spirit is to live daily under His influence, step by step.
- It means inviting the Spirit into our
- Decisions, Prov.3:5-6
- Thoughts, Phil. 4:8
- Actions. Gal.5:16
- Walking is progressive, intentional, and relational.
You don’t have to fight sin on your own. As you walk with the Spirit, He empowers your steps.
LIVE BY THE SPIRIT
Gal 5:24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature together with its passions and appetites.
Gal 5:25 If we [claim to] live by the [Holy] Spirit, we must also walk by the Spirit [with personal integrity, godly character, and moral courage–our conduct empowered by the Holy Spirit].
Gal 5:26 We must not become conceited, challenging orprovoking one another, envying one another.
- Be Led by the Spirit — Romans 8:14 (AMP)
“For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”
- Being led implies direction and submission.
- The Spirit leads through
- Unction -1.Jn.2:20/27
- Conviction- Acts 2:27
- Peace- Col.3:15
- Wisdom- 1.Cor2:10-12
- The Word- 2. Tim3:16
- To be led by the Spirit is to trust God’s path, even when it challenges your own understanding.
A Spirit-led life is not ruled by impulse, but by divine instruction. Ask: “Holy Spirit, what are You saying in this situation?”
Unction- anointing
1Jn 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One [you have been set apart, specially gifted and prepared by the Holy Spirit], and all of you know [the truth because He teaches us, illuminates our minds, and guards us from error].
- Pray in the Spirit — Ephesians 6:18; Jude 20 (AMP)
“With all prayer and petition pray [with specific requests] at all times [on every occasion and in every season] in the Spirit…” (Ephesians 6:18)
“But you, beloved, build yourselves up on [the foundation of] your most holy faith [continually progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], pray in the Holy Spirit…” (Jude 20)
- To pray “in the Spirit” is not just about language—it’s about alignment.
- It means praying under the influence and guidance of the Spirit—not your flesh.
- It can be in your native tongue, or in tongues, or in groans too deep for words (Rom. 8:26).
Praying in the Spirit is like plugging into heaven’s current—you’re not just sending words; you’re being directed and energized by God Himself.
- Be Filled with the Spirit — Ephesians 5:18 (AMP)
“Do not get drunk with wine, for that is wickedness… but be filled with the Holy Spirit and constantly guided by Him.”
- To be filled is to be controlled, empowered, and saturated with God’s presence.
- It’s not a one-time event, but a continual filling, like refueling.
- It affects your speech, worship, relationships, and emotions (see verses 19–21).
After Pentecost, Spirit-filling is shown as repeatable, situational, and empowering.
Peter, The believers, Barnabas, Paul,
It equips believers for boldness, love, leadership, and spiritual gifts—whatever the moment requires.
When you’re filled with the Spirit, your life begins to overflow with praise, gratitude, and humility.
Speaking in Tongues: A Gift, Not a Requirement
▸ Speaking in Tongues – 1 Corinthians 14:2–4, 14–15, 18 (AMP)
“For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God… however, in the Spirit he speaks mysteries… One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself… If I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unproductive… I will pray with the spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], and I will pray with the mind [using words I understand]… I thank God that I speak in [unknown] tongues more than all of you.”
- Tongues is a spiritual prayer language, a way to speak directly to God when the human mind can’t find words.
- It builds the speaker up, much like charging a battery.
- It should be used in private prayer, unless interpreted in public settings (1 Cor. 14:27).
▸ Praying in the Spirit ≠ Always Tongues
- Tongues is one way of praying in the Spirit.
- But praying in the Spirit also includes Spirit-led, Spirit-empowered prayers in your native language.
- Romans 8:26 says the Spirit intercedes for us even when we groan without words—this, too, is praying in the Spirit.
We believe that tongues is a valid, biblical gift—not for salvation, but for personal edification and sometimes public ministry.
It is not the only evidence of the Spirit, but one of many.
