When Jesus Steps in the Room

FROM THE TOMB TO THE UPPER ROOM

WHEN JESUS STEPS IN THE ROOM

LUKE 24:36-49

  1. JESUS STEPS IN THE ROOM HE SPEAKS YOUR FEAR AND SPEAKS PEACE (v. 36–38)

Luk 24:36  While they were talking about this, Jesus Himself [suddenly] stood among them and said to them, “Peace be to you.”

Luk 24:37  But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a spirit.

Luk 24:38  And He said, “Why are you troubled, and why are doubts rising in your hearts?

Jesus doesn’t wait for your fear to leave—He steps into it and speaks peace over it.

Definition of “Peace” (Greek: Eirēnē)

  • tranquility of mind
  • inner rest / exemption from agitation
  • harmony and wholeness restored
  • security that comes from reconciliation with God

This is not merely the absence of conflict.
It is the presence of divine order in the middle of chaos.

Jesus Speaks Peace

  1. BECAUSE PEACE PREPARES THE HEART TO RECEIVE REVELATION
  2. BECAUSE PEACE IS THE EVIDENCE OF HIS PRESENCE

Is. 9:6. Calls him the Prince of peace

Gal. 5:22. Names the fruit of the spirit peace.

Rom 5:1  Therefore, since we have been justified [that is, acquitted of sin, declared blameless before God] by faith, [let us grasp the fact that] we have peace with God [and the joy of reconciliation with Him] through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed).

Where Jesus is truly present:

  • chaos loses authority
  • fear loses dominance
  • anxiety loses its grip

III. BECAUSE YOU CANNOT DEAL WITH DOUBT UNTIL FEAR IS ADDRESSED

Once peace is spoken, now He deals with their doubt.

John 14:27 (AMP)
“Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid.”

Psa 34:4  I sought the LORD [on the authority of His word], and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.

  1. 2. JESUS CONFRONTS DOUBT WITH EVIDENCE (v. 39–43)

Luk 24:39  Look at [the marks in] My hands and My feet,[and see] that it is I Myself. Touch Me and see; a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.”[Jhn 20:20-27]

Luk 24:40  After saying this, He showed them His hands and His feet.

Luk 24:41  While they still did not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”

Luk 24:42  They gave Him a piece of broiled fish,

Luk 24:43  and He took it and ate it in front of them.

Evidence Jesus gives today

  1. THROUGH TRANSFORMED LIVES

You may not have touched nail-scarred hands—
But you have seen:

  • Addicts delivered
  • Marriages restored
  • Broken people healed
  • Bitter people transformed
  • Your own life changed

2 Corinthians 5:17 (AMP)
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ… he is a new creature…”

Col 3:15  Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always].

  1. THROUGH PERSONAL ENCOUNTERS WITH HIS PRESENCE
  • He gives peace that makes no sense
  • Speaks directly to your spirit
  • Answers prayers specifically
  • Shows up in ways too precise to dismiss
  • Mary Magdalene— Delivered from seven demons and became devoted follower of Christ (Luke 8:2)
  • Zacchaeus— Greedy tax collector transformed into generous restitution-maker (Luke 19:1–10)
  • The Samaritan Woman at the Well— Broken woman became evangelist to her city (John 4:28–30, 39)
  • Blind Bartimaeus— Blind beggar received sight and followed Jesus on the road (Mark 10:46–52)

III. THROUGH THE CONSISTENT FAITHFULNESS OF HIS WORD

  • Promises fulfilled
  • Scripture confirming itself in life
  • Prophetic words manifesting
  • Biblical truth proving trustworthy over time

The longer you walk with Him,
The more receipts you accumulate.

Psalm 34:8 (AMP)
“O taste and see that the LORD is good…”

Faith grows because experience confirms what Scripture declared.

  1. JESUS OPENS THEIR MINDS TO UNDERSTAND SCRIPTURE (v. 44–46)

Luk 24:44  Then He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you, everything which has been written about Me in the Law of Moses and the [writings of the] Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

Luk 24:45  Then He opened their minds to [help them] understand the Scriptures,

Luk 24:46  and said, “And so it is written, that the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,

You can still be confused, Until Jesus explains it through the Word.

  1. Once they understand the message, now they receive their mission.
  2. God solidifies our faith through His Word
  • The OT is filed with prophecies about Jesus that were fulfilled in Him.

  1. When Jesus steps in He gives you your assignment

Luk 24:47  and that repentance [necessary] for forgiveness of sins would be preached in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

Luk 24:48  You are witnesses of these things.

Understanding is never the end goal—
it always leads to responsibility.

You are not saved just to know something—you are saved to say something.

A witness doesn’t debate—A witness declares:

  • Witnesses testify to personal experience
  • Witnesses carry responsibility to speak

“I’ve seen Him. I know Him. He changed me.”

  1. HE INSTRUCTS THEM TO GO TO REMAIN WITH EXPECTATION

THE POWER OF GOD WOULD FALL ON THEM IN 7 WEEKS.

POWER TO WITNESS, HEAL, PROPHECY, SERVE, HOLYGHOST POWER!!!!

Luk 24:49  Listen carefully: I am sending the Promise of My Father [the Holy Spirit] upon you; but you are to remain in the city [of Jerusalem] until you are clothed (fully equipped) with power from on high.”
